My interest is in any address/phone information for members of the 1970 Hudson's Bay Company Anniversary wilderness trip (the 2nd-half, Mistassini to Rupert House leg). This was Abby's last wilderness trip. I have a partial list that Abby and Seth put together in 2000. I would like to rekindle neglected friendships.
1970 was my last year. I began in Wauramaug in 1963, thanks to being Russ MacDonald's nephew. Otherwise I might never even have heard of Keewaydin. Retrospectively I feel that I had much more fun than many campers - attributable to being a compatriot of Steve and Pete Hare, as well to being family with with Alex, Kevin, Bruce, and Andrew. Many of these activities are still classified. oh, guys, remember - that it works both ways... Nothing in my early life had nearly the impact then, and certainly later, as did the years at Keewaydin. Last year I found a letter that Charlie Horner wrote to me after the 1968 Algonquin trip. This letter is one of my most valuable possessions. I deeply and profoundly regret having failed to stay in touch with this hero of a man. Others are gone, too. But I am thankful that there are still so many other guys like him, larger than life, with Keewaydin in their hearts. One headmaster of my boys' private school told me that a key criterion for hiring in his line of work was experience as - get this - a staff member of a better summer camp. I had never thought of it. I hired a consultant a few years ago for a management review. At one point he asked me something unexpectedly, about what I might do if I became able to leave the company for extended periods of time. My answer, totally out of the blue, was that I would go to Keewaydin to give back some measure of life and of living. And I would do it for free. Hey Pete, did you hear that? Read this one, Pete! And much progress is being made in that direction! P.S. I still work better in the stern. |
